9th Circuit Court judge acquitted of prostitution, bribery charges
Braddock, TX (AP) - 9th Circuit Court Judge William J. Jennings has been cleared of prostitution and bribery charges.
Jennings had been accused of asking for sexual favors from a woman defendant in exchange for leniency in her fraud case.
A state district court jury in Braddock acquitted him Friday night on five counts of criminal solicitation during the commission of a felony. The jury also acquitted him on four counts of demanding or receiving a bribe by a public official.
Judge Michael Vigil declared a mistrial on one bribery count after the jury deadlocked on the charge.
The trial was Jennings' second. He was tried in 1999-2000 for indecent bahavior but was pardoned by President Clinton during his last day in office in 2001, a day before the verdict was to be read.
